How to Write Great Survey Questions | Makeover for LinkedIn

Another day, another review of a survey I came across “in the wild.” Today's survey comes courtesy of a poll LinkedIn was conducting.

Love the sentiment. Love that they framed it up with a time period (today). Love that they specified “in my feed.”

And yet: double-barreled, not super confident I know what the blank bubble between neutral and agree and neutral and disagree are, and of course - not a big neutral fan… I either feel this way or I don’t….

This question is not going to get LinkedIn useful, accurate, or actionable information. And, in my opinion that really sucks for them and us.

Would love to re-write and in order to do that would want to know: what they hope to learn by asking a question like this; why respectful and welcoming — what does that mean to LinkedIn?

It's important to craft quality questions EVEN if it's "just" a social media poll. Every time you collect information, you have the opportunity to collect quality information that can be used to tell credible stories or make informed decisions... or, bad data that will mislead people and paint an inaccurate picture of reality. Let's do better!
